Home Affairs Minister Kazembe Kazembe is reported to have sent police officers to aspiring Mashonaland Central province chairperson James Makamba last week.

Both Makamba and Kazembe could neither confirm nor deny the allegations.

Sources familiar with incident allege Makamba was arrested at his rural home in Mount Darwin after his family and friends had gathered to welcome him.

"Police came and arrested Makamba accusing him of violating covid 19 regulations but they were pleading with him that they were sent by Kazembe on political grounds since he showed interest in contesting him in the looming provincial elections, " said the source.

Kazembe did not respond to questions send to him by this publication while Makamba refused to comment on the issue.

Meanwhile, Makamba's arrest has raised eye brows within the ZANU PF camp as analyst argue that their gatherings accommodate more than 50 people chief among them the provincial coordinating committee which Kazembe chairs.

"It is astonishing to note that Kazembe is using security agencies for political power in the name of violating covid 19 regulations yet he chairs a PCC with more than 100 people," said Givemore Chatyoka.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa recently  defied COVID-19 safety protocols set by his government after he gathered thousands of people for a cultural event in Gokwe South, hours before his Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga, who doubles as Health minister, placed City of Kwekwe under a 14-day lockdown following the outbreak of the much-feared Indian variant of the disease in the Midlands city
