President Robert Mugabe has left the country for Dubai, the United Arab Emirates to attend the World Energy Forum.

Mugabe, who is accompanied by the First Lady, Amai Grace Mugabe; Foreign Affairs Minister, Cde Simbarashe Mumbengegwi and other top government officials, was seen off at the Harare International Airport by Vice President Joice Mujuru, service chiefs and senior government officials.

He is expected to join world leaders and heads of private sector institutions from the United Nations member states at the high level international conference.

The UN has designated 2012 as the International Year of Sustainable Energy For All, and as an energy access campaign platform, the forum will focus on providing universal access to basic energy services that will benefit all nations and peoples.

The World Energy Forum has proclaimed October 22 as the World Energy Day.

The summit in Dubai is also expected to chart a roadmap for a sustainable global energy system that can fuel economic and social development worldwide.

It will provide the opportunity for delegates to discuss and debate the key energy issues of the day within the industry amongst think tanks and individuals from around the world and set the agenda for the future of the energy industry.

The summit will be unique as it will see the first ladies of the UN member states holding a summit for sustainable development which will run concurrently with the World Energy Forum.

The first ladies' summit will focus on global energy and water issues as they relate to the lives of women and their essential role in economic and social development across the globe.
