A MUTARE man died after being bitten by a vicious stray dog on Monday.
Police said Martin Chiunda (63) of 41 Carrington Road in Darlington medium-density-suburb, was bitten by a stray dog which tried to attack his dog which was moving around his premises.
Manicaland police spokesman, Inspector Enock Chishiri, said police were still investigating the matter.
"Investigations are underway to establish the cause of his death. We cannot confirm for now if the dog had rabies," he said.
Insp Chishiri said Chiunda had hosted a party for his niece and were enjoying themselves at around 11pm when his dog charged at people gathered there.
He restrained it from disturbing the guests before another dog came and attacked his dog. He was bitten on his hand in the process.
He was taken to Mutare Provincial Hospital and was treated and discharged.
He later complained of chest pains.
His daughter, Monica Chiunda (37), took him to hospital where he fell from a bench after developing some convulsions.
A doctor picked him, but he died shortly.
