The Ministry of Education, Sport, Arts and Culture has signed a memorandum of understanding with a local non-governmental organisation, Foundation for Farming, a development which will see principles of conservation agriculture being adopted into primary and secondary schools syllabuses. The MOU, which was signed in the capital this Tuesday, will see 50 primary schools drawn from the country's 10 provinces benefiting from the programme.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Education, Sport, Arts and Culture Minister, Senator David Coltart said the organisation has proved to be relevant to the country's education system as its thrust is to improve livelihoods.
Foundations for Farming chief executive officer, Mr Craig Deal said school children are not learning enough about appropriate agricultural technologies and the future generation needs to be equipped to face the challenges of food security, increased food production and sustainable profitability.
The Ministry of Education, Sport, Arts and Culture is currently reviewing the curriculum in line with the recommendations of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry into education and training of 1999.
