MDC-T has taken the head of Parliament's secretariat Austin Zvoma to court over what it says was the unprocedural adjournment of the House, as a power struggle bedeviling Zimbabwe's coalition government spilled into the courts.
"I have filed the application and we are now awaiting a hearing date," Beatrice Mtetwa, the MDC lawyer told reporters.
MDC-T parliamentary chief whip Innocent Gonese said: "We are challenging unprocedural and unlawful adjournment of the parliament. In our view the sitting of the parliament was cancelled.
"The Clerk (of Parliament Austin Zvoma) was supposed to have made an announcement about the vacancy and an election held immediately. We want an order seeking that the sitting of the parliament on the next available date."
The court application comes a day after there were chaotic scenes in Zimbabwe's Parliament on Tuesday following Zvoma's decision to cancel until further notice the election of speaker of the House of Assembly, a move that effectively adjourned the key lower chamber indefinitely.
