Strict anti-poaching laws to be enforced

A strict anti-poaching laws and regulations will be enforced in all the country's parks and wildlife in order to promote good conservation methods for the benefit of all Zimbabweans.
Parks and Wildlife Management Authority has received a major boost of equipment and boats to enforce anti-poaching laws and regulations from a local well-wisher.
Environment and Natural Resources Management Minister, Francis Nhema said the two boats and equipment which will be deployed to Kariba are critical for research activities currently underway, pollution monitoring and crocodile surveillance as well as patrolling water bodies thereby detecting poaching activities in these areas.
Nhema said his ministry has in the past few months been worried by the frequency of crocodile attacks to poachers, adding that they were making efforts to minimise such incidents and that the authority had also stepped up patrols in the water bodies area to arrest people fishing illegally.
Giving out the two boats which he said used to be used by his late parents Mr Peter Lobels said his wish is for the authority to use the boats for the protection of fish and other natural resources including water bodies and wildlife against poachers.
Poaching in fresh water bodies like Lake Chivero, Manyame, Kanyemba Kariba and Mtrikwi has been reported to be on the increase with some fish mongers killed by crocodiles as they try to fish in areas that are not designated for such.
This has been attributed to lack of resources and equipment by Parks and Wildlife Management Authority to monitor the fresh water bodies some of which are huge and vast like Kariba with more than 350 sqkm.
