The International Committee of the Red Cross Head of Operations for Central and Southern Africa, Patrick Hote says non-governmental organisations should remain apolitical in executing their humanitarian duties.
Hote made the remarks when he paid a courtesy call on Vice President Joice Mujuru at her Munhumutapa offices in Harare to discuss various projects the organisation is undertaking in the country.
Speaking after a closed door meeting with Vice President Mujuru, Hote told journalists that Vice President Mujuru is satisfied with humanitarian work the non-governmental organisation is doing in Zimbabwe.
Commenting if non-governmental organisation should be involved in politics, he said the mandate of NGOs should be apolitical.
"We are working with the Zimbabwe Prison Service, we are partnering with the Zimbabwe Defence Force in the demining process and Harare City Council in establishing Polyclinics, so our relations with Zimbabwe are strengthening,"said Hote.
The International Crisis Group President Ms Louise Arbou also paid a courtesy call on Vice President Mujuru.
The two discussed progress made on the constitution making process, issues affecting women and the political situation in Zimbabwe.
"We had a fruitful meeting with the Vice President, she is confident about the constitution making process and the expected referendum. I am happy that we had an opportunity to discuss issues to do with women empowerment," said Arbour.
The International Crisis Group is visiting Zimbabwe for the first time and is expected to produce a report after meeting with other organisations and political parties.
