A Harare man from Mbare will spend the next 22 months in prison for assaulting and robbing his uncle of personal items worth US$148. Goods valued at US$115 were recovered.
Partson Mhowa (30), of Block 4 Shawasha Flats in Mbare, denied assault and robbery charges when he appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Kudakwashe Jarabini.
He was, however, convicted after the prosecution proved a case against him.
Mr Jarabini sentenced him to 20 months in prison and suspended one month on condition that he restitutes US$33 to Wellington Rangwani (44) of Village 8 Ringa, Beatrice.
Mhowa had three months added to his sentence after he was previously convicted of a similar offence.
Prosecutor Ms Karen Kunaka proved that on November 8, at around 3 am at Ringa Village in Beatrice, Rangwani was asleep when Mhowa arrived and knocked on his door.
While Rangwani was in the process of opening for him, Mhowa forced his way in.
When Rangwani tried to light a lamp, Mhowa blew it out and started punching him.
Mhowa pushed Rangwani away and went outside to pick a log before hitting him on the forehead and right jaw.
Mhowa took away two 800-watt speakers and three blankets before escaping. He was later arrested in Village 6, Ringa, and loot worth US$115 was recovered.
