Workers are allegedly being beaten up and paid low wages which the ministry says is violation of Zimbabwe's labour laws. The Chinese have been approached but they are adamant and they say their operations are governed by a government-to-government bilateral arrangement.
In an interview with the local press the Minister of Labour and Social Welfare, Paurina Mpariwa said the ministry had a meeting with the Zimbabwe Construction and Allied Trades Workers' Union. They had agreed that a team from the department of labour inspection, the National Social Security Authority and officials from the union should carry out investigations.
