POLICE in Mutasa are investigating a case in which a 42-year-old man last week went berserk and set himself on fire.
Pearson Nyazeka of Nyazeka village under Chief Mutasa who used to stay with his mother, Consistence Mapeza (72), never disclosed his worries to anyone until he committed suicide.
Police said Mapeza saw Nyazeka at around 11pm storming out of his bedroom, fuming and holding a burning log and a container filled with petrol.
She quizzed him over what he intended to do, but the late Nyazeka never responded. He instead went away into a nearby bush.
A few minutes later, he came back to the homestead with his whole body in flames.
Mapeza called other villagers to help her extinguish the fire, but Nyazeka had already sustained severe burns all over his body.
He died instantly.
