A 39-year-old Chipinge man committed suicide by consuming a pesticide after he had a heated argument with his wife.
Solomon Simango of Soweto Compound, Jersey Estate had a misunderstanding with wife, Tsvakai Muchafa (35), over an undisclosed issue.
Solomon went to Mozambique and told his father, Noah Simango (80) that he was considering cutting his life short.
"He, however, did not disclose the reason why he had decided to commit suicide. Noah counseled him at length against the idea. Solomon appeared convinced and told Noah that he had changed his mind and would not consider killing himself anymore.
"He returned to Zimbabwe, met his brother, Edison Simango (47) at Mundanda Business Centre and told him that he had a dispute with his wife.
"He was staggering and was holding a bottle of the pesticide. He alerted Tsvakai who called other villagers to take him to the hospital.
He died at around 5 pm," said Manicaland provincial police spokesman, Inspector Enock Chishiri, who confirmed both incidents and said that no foul play was suspected.
He urged members of the public to desist from committing suicide over issues that can be solved by merely finding common ground.
