Govt commends ITC policy review

Government has commended the input made by various stakeholders during the review of the National ICT Policy which is expected to pave way for the crafting of a new ICT Act.
The ICT policy draft document which has since been finalised is set to give a framework for the growth and development of the ICT sector as well as contribute towards the socio-economic transformation of the country.
In an interview on the sidelines of the recently held ICT 2012 Achievers Awards, the Minister of Information, Communication and Technology, Mr Nelson Chamisa applauded the positive contribution by various stakeholders in areas such as consumer protection, cyber security and e-government.
Minister Chamisa underscored the important role that ICTs are set to play in the resurgence of the local economy and the realisation of the macro-economic goals, adding that the review of the policy is a response to the continued changes in the information and communication field globally.
Meanwhile, several individuals and firms in the ICT sector scooped awards in various categories, during the ceremony.
Mwenezi High School was voted the ICT Rural School of the Year, while Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA)'s website was voted the top Public Sector Website of the Year.
In the individual category, Mr Ellman Chanakira was the 2012 ICT Businessman of the Year while Mrs Josephine Takundwa walked away with the ICT Businesswoman of the Year Award.
