Man (42) rapes daughters, infects them with HIV

A 42-YEAR-OLD man from Chiredzi was this week sentenced to 30 years in prison for raping his two biological daughters and infecting them with HIV.
George Wanyara of Chitemere Village under Chief Neshuro pleaded not guilty to a charge of rape when he appeared before Mrs Esther Muremba but was convicted because of overwhelming evidence against him.
Wanyara was initially given 36 years in prison but six years were conditionally suspended for five years.
Mrs Muremba said she could not suspend more years even if Wanyara was a first offender because he was rude during trial.
When Wanyara was asked of whether he had taken an HIV test or not, he became rude and told the magistrate to go and get tested herself.
"Iwe enda unotesitiwa (You go and get tested)," he said to the chagrin of the court gallery.
It was the State case as represented by Ms Sophia Busvumani that on an unknown date but sometime in November 2006, Wanyara left his sick wife in their bedroom and went to the kitchen hut and sneaked into the blankets of his 17-year-old daughter.
The court heard that the teenage girl screamed for help after realising that someone had sneaked into her blankets but Wanyara threatened to kill her and he raped her once.
On the second count, the court heard that in January this year, Wanyara raped the same daughter when he entered where she was sleeping and demanded that she give him food.
When the complainant came with food, Wanyara forced his victim to the ground, forcibly removed her clothes before raping her once, the court heard.
The girl reported the matter to the police the following morning leading to Wanyara's arrest.
On the third count, the court heard that sometime in 2008, Wanyara approached his 10-year-old daughter when she was sleeping in the same room with her brother and assaulted his son who bolted out leaving the two together.
The court further heard that Wanyara raped his daughter who was sleeping naked in her blankets.
The court heard that one of Wanyara's daughters is reported to have tested HIV positive, an infection that could have been transmitted by the father.
