Festive accidents death toll rises to143

A total of 143 people have been killed and 788 others injured in road accidents that occurred countrywide during this festive season. Manicaland Province has recorded the highest number of deaths with 29 people compared to five people last year. Mashonaland East Province has recorded 26 deaths compared to 19 people killed during the same period last year and 22 people were killed in Masvingo province compared to 8 people during the same period last year.
Currently, Mashonaland Province recorded the least number of deaths recorded with two deaths compared to six people last year followed by Bulawayo province with 3 deaths compared to 5 deaths last year.
Police Spokesperson, Superintendent Paul Nyathi said the police will continue with their operations aimed at reducing road carnage and corruption.
Analysts believe it is necessary for every motorist to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy especially during this rainy period and to make sure that they fasten seat belts.
