The Minister of Local Government, Rural and Urban Development, Dr Ignatious Chombo has suspended the Guruve Rural District Council top management on allegations of abusing public funds.
Dr Chombo told the state media during a tour of Mbare and Chitungwiza to assess progress made by the councils in refuse collection, that the Guruve Rural District Council faces dismissal if allegations of abusing public funds are true.
He said he is happy that the Chitungwiza Town Council has taken the lead in rehabilitating sewer systems and in garbage collection.
He noted that despite economic challenges, other councils countrywide are slowly responding to the call by government to upgrade the water reticulation systems to ensure sanity prevails in all cities and towns come new year.
The past years have seen poor performance by the local councils forcing the minister to fire several councillors belonging to the MDC-T party on allegations of corruption and abusing rate-payers money for their personal gains.
