Zimbabwe Republic Police Assistant Commissioner Erasmus Makodza's estranged wife yesterday made a US$700 maintenance application for the couple's three children. Faustina Makodza yesterday appeared at the Harare Civil Court and the maintenance application was heard in the Bulawayo-based Asst Comm Makodza's absence.

Faustina told the court that she needed about US$1 100 as school fees for their two children aged 14 and 17.

She added that another child who is five-years-old requires US$200 for crèche fees.

"He is an Assistant Commissioner and earns US$1 200 while I own a restaurant and night club, realising about US$500 each month.

"What I am in desperate need of is school fees for the children, as for groceries and other necessities I will cater for the children myself. We have a flat in Bulawayo which gives us US$300 monthly and the money is deposited into his account," she told the court.

She asked the court for permission to verify the contents of the lease agreement of the flat tenant.

Magistrate Ms Rebecca Kaviya ordered Erasmus to pay US$400 per month with effect from January 30 this year.

"US$150 per child for the two grown up girls while US$100 for the minor child.

"When you have verified on details of the flat then you can come back to court for an upward variation," Ms Kaviya said.
