Mashonaland police declare war on negligent drivers

The Zimbabwe Republic Police in Mashonaland East province has declared war on negligent drivers, unregistered and unroadworthy vehicles which have been blamed for causing most of the accidents.
The province has one of the highest fatalities due to traffic accidents.
Officer Commanding Police, Senior Assistant Commissioner Ronald Muderedzwa said unroadworthy and unregistered vehicles some of which are used for commuting should be removed from the roads.
He made the remarks at the Provincial Crime Awareness campaign in Marondera.
Vehicle Inspection Department Inspector, Oswald Chiwashira said drivers need to be cautious at all times.
Mr David Chitau from the National Traffic Safety Council expressed concern over the increasing number of accidents due to human error.
From the 15th to the 31st of last month, 31 people died while 108 were injured in 58 accidents that occurred in the province.
