The Chairman of the Zimbabwe Mining Development Corporation (ZMDC), Mr Godwills Masimirembwa has castigated the west for continuing to scuttle the advancement of mining activities in the country through sanctions.

The Zimbabwean mining sector is the mainstay of the economy, and has in the past three years contributed 60% of total exports.

But according to Mr Masimirembwa limited exploration in the capital intensive sector continues to stifle its potential against the backdrop of continued attempts by the west to throw spannners.

Mr Masimirembwa added that though the west continues to vilify the country from fully benefitting from its God given resources in a bid to achieve regime change, Zimbabweans will remain resolute and will not be deterred from such benefits.

At the last Kimberly Process Certification Scheeme (KPCS) plenary held in December last year in Washington DC, attempts by the west to redefine the concept of blood diamonds hit a brickwall after Asian and African diamond mining countries rejected such proposals.
