Man jailed 10 months for bedding minor

A 28-year-old man who bedded and impregnated a 13-year-old girl has been jailed for an effective 10 months.

The accused, Robert Chihoro of P87, Pfupajena in Chegutu, pleaded guilty to the offence when he appeared before magistrate Ngoni Nduna, who initially sentenced him to 12 months' imprisonment before two months were conditionally suspended.
Prosecutor Morris Mlilo told the court that sometime in August 2009, accused proposed love to the minor who was at that time aged 13 years.
On December 25 2010 accused lured complainant into his car and drove to Marava business centre in Zvimba where they had sex with the girl's consent.
The matter came to light when the girl fell pregnant, leading to the statutory rape case being reported to police and accused arrested, the court heard.
