Notorious armed robber Richard Timba's road ended on Saturday afternoon when he was nabbed after a shoot-out with detectives in Queensdale.

Timba (48) failed to evade the alert detectives as they exchanged gunfire before he was nabbed at his home following a tip off. The well-known robber, who was on the police wanted list, is nursing serious bullet injuries he sustained on his stomach.

A 9mm pistol and goods suspected to have been stolen were recovered from Timba's house. Other stolen goods are believed to be on sale at a flea market hear Harare Central Police station.

Impeccable sources said Richard had a tendency of recruiting young men in Epworth for house robberies and would target airtime vendors in Harare's Avenues area, Banket and Chinhoyi.

Richard was in a pool of blood in his bathing room where he had sought refuge before he was shot through the door by detectives. Police dogs and riot officers were all over the house as neighbours peeped from their windows in fear after hearing gunshots.

Richard is said to have been issued with four warrants of arrest since 2011. Efforts to get a comment from the provincial police CID spokesperson Inspector Chiduuro were fruitless as his mobile went unanswered at the time of going to press.

Timba's incidence comes barely 5 days after another notorious armed robber, Peace Mutema, was shot dead on New Year's even in Harare. He was wanted for a spate of armed robberies in Harare and Bulawayo, was killed on New Year's eve after detectives received a tip off that he was meeting a relative in the middle of the night in the city centre.

After Mutema was fatally shot, thousands of Zimbabweans praised the police for a job well done. The nation thanked the hardworking and brave cops for risking their lives in striving to maintain peace and security in the nation.

However, another notorious armed robber, Clever Nengomasha, who has been on police wanted list for over 10 years escaped the shoot-out that claimed the life of his partner in crime - Mutema. He is still on the run.
