Honor the victims of the Gukurahundi: Obert Gutu

Addressing a public lecture in Harare on Thursday, Deputy Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Senator Obert Gutu said it was regrettable that the inclusive government had failed to implement the Global Political Agreement with 27 outstanding issues still not resolved while 24 were agreed to but not being implemented. He also blasted the state controlled ZBC for whipping up emotions of hate rather than address people's issues. "I can tell you this ZBC has been so successful in whipping up emotions of hate by exhuming the purported Smith regime victims who are said to have been dumped in a disused mine in Mt Darwin."Why can't we instead have one big memorium and an official apology on the Gukurahundi genocide which we did ourselves and avoid unnecessary civil clashes with the affected people? "Because when people are disenfranchised and marginalized don't expect them to be peaceful. If a man is cornered like the current certain party is doing, they will resort to some very desperate measures to save themselves," he said. He also said there was need to honor the victims of the Gukurahundi which would be of national relevance than make it a tribal issue. Gutu also attacked the Zanu (PF) definition of empowerment saying it was a bid by the desperate party to loot properties and save their collapsing party.
"There is a difference between wealth grabbing and wealth creation, lets create the wealth and have our country on its feet again than grab what is already in place. I tell you we can grab Olivine and have it working at 16% and wallow in abject poverty.
"I can tell you one thing, I want to be rich, very rich but I don't want to be a crook. Look at what has happened to that man Muamar Gadaffi, he is going and he is gone. It is because he oppressed his people for along time until the people took this desperate measure against him," he added.
Gutu highlighted the issue of selective application of the law as evidenced by the fact that some Zanu (PF) officials are still walking scot-free after several formal political reports were made against them while some other officials who are from other parties are arbitrarily and randomly being arrested on trumped up charges.
