The motive of a Chiredzi man who allegedly assaulted and killed his friend's wife because the later had divorced the friend has baffled residents of the sugar-cane town.

John Tenechi (37) of Hlengani village under Chief Tshovani area in Musisinyani and not employed appeared briefly before Magistrate Honest Musiiwa recently for allegedly assaulting and murdering his friend's wife blaming her of divorcing his friend who was not named. He was remanded in custody to January 16 2013.

The prosecutor, Simbarashe Muchatibaya, told the court that on October 7 last year at Hlengani Village  in Chief Tshovani's area in Musisinyani, Tenechi who was in the company of 3 accomplices who are still at large allegedly severely assaulted his friend's 17 year old wife.

It is in the state case that after divorcing her husband, the 17 year old juvenile (name withheld) left for her parents' homestead in the same area. The court heard that Tenechi together with three accomplices went to the woman's house where they severely assaulted her before they left her for dead.

It is alleged that the 17 year old juvenile was severely assaulted that she was admitted to Chiredzi General Hospital but could not make it and she later died when she went back home.

Tenechi's accomplices are still being traced and rumour has it that they had fled to South Africa and Tenechi is in custody as there is fear that he might fled and he is being charged with murder.
