Stunned passengers on a Qantas jet got a fright when they spotted a python clinging onto the wing.
The 12-foot long reptile was curled up next to an engine when a female passenger on board the Cairns to Papua New Guinea flight caught sight of it.
Thought to be a Scrub Python, it spent hours battling to survive the freezing air.
Passenger Robert Weber told The Sydney Morning Herald: "I felt quite sad for it, really. For the remainder of the flight, he was trying to pull himself back into the plane, even though he was fighting against 250 mph winds. The cabin crew told us that at cruising altitude, it was 10 degrees outside - but not even that was able to finish him."
The icy conditions were eventually too much for the animal and it was found dead when the plane eventually touched down.
A Quantas spokeperson said, "We have never heard of this happening before.
