TWO visually impaired men drowned while attempting to swim in a flooded river in Buhera last week.
The tragic incident happened in Chief Nyashanu's area on New Year's Eve. Police confirmed the incident and said vulnerable groups of the society should not be taken to flooded rivers and left alone.
The duo, Costa Mwandiambira (21) of Shereni Village and Obert Ndlovu (20) from Binga went to Nyashanga River in the company of their guide, Donald Mpofu intending to bath, but decided to swim.
Manicaland police spokesman, Inspector Enock Chishiri, said Donald tried to stop them, but the duo insisted on swimming.
"They drowned a few minutes later. Donald went back home and advised other villagers about the issue. The two were already dead when other villagers tried to rescue them," Insp Chishiri said.
Meanwhile, a seven-year-old boy, Tinashe Mapudzi last weekend drowned after he attempted to swim in a flooded river.
