A 16-YEAR-OLD Form Four pupil at Prince Edward High School collapsed and died on Saturday after taking part in a basketball practice session, the Herald reported.
Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Tedious Chibanda yesterday said they were investigating circumstances surrounding the death of the pupil, whose name he declined to disclose.
"We received reports that the pupil was playing basketball and complained of dizziness and the teacher in charge removed him from play.
"The boy is said to have collapsed while he was seated on a bench and was rushed to a local hospital (Michael Gelfand Hospital) where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
"His death is being treated as sudden death and we have requested that a post-mortem be carried out and are also looking at what really transpired on the day," he said.
The pupil's death comes hardly three months after the death of another pupil at the school.
A 13-year-old Form One pupil, Munashe Banda, was found dead in the schools' swimming pool in October.
According to 'The Herald', the headmaster of the school, Mr Agrippa Sora's story corroborated with that of Insp Chibanda's report.
"He was playing (basketball) with other students and started complaining of dizziness and was asked to rest.
"He collapsed and was taken to hospital by deputy headmaster (Mr Never Muparuri) where was he pronounced dead on arrival," he said.
