Principals met in Harare today, for the first time in 2013, to review ways of attending to the national needs of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) and to discuss progress made by the special Cabinet committee on the Constitution-making process.
The Ministry of Finance has already committed to immediately disburse $2 million to ZEC as government intensifies efforts to mobilise addition resources.
On the Constitution-making process, the leaders acknowledged the progress made by the special Cabinet committee, including the Copac co-chairpersons. In this regard, the political leaders will be meeting on Thursday to receive a report from the committee.
Meanwhile, the committee is expected to meet tomorrow, Tuesday, and if necessary on Wednesday to complete their work and submit a report to the political leaders.
The leaders are keen to have the process expedited so that the 18 July 2012 draft constitution can be taken to referendum as soon as practicable.
