The UNICEF Zimbabwe Country Office is seeking Expression of Interest (EOI) from contractors to pre-qualify suitable transporters / haulage service providers who will be invited to submit proposals to undertake road transportation services in all provinces around Zimbabwe.
The objective of this advertisement is to identify and pre-qualify potential contractors to participate in a competitive Request for Proposal procurement process. Additional specific works will be described in the relevant RFP when issued.
Background
As part of its program implementation, UNICEF works with the Government, national and international organizations to deliver quality education and health services to all children in Zimbabwe. UNICEF provides goods / supplies which are regularly dispatched by road primarily from Harare to various destinations around Zimbabwe where projects are implemented.
The main commodities transported are but not limited to:
- Emergency shelter items, e.g. blankets, plastics sheeting, buckets
- Therapeutic food and education kits
- Water and sanitation supplies and equipment
- Pharmaceutical and health related products
The transport requirements include both primary transport on main roads but also the 'final mile' distribution to schools and health-clinics within the country some of which are difficult to access.
Scope of Work
The scope of work will include provision of inland road transportation of supplies from the UNICEF central distribution centre in Harare to various destinations around the country in accordance with the terms and conditions of any resulting Long Term Agreement (LTA). UNICEF goods will be delivered at the destination in good condition within the agreed transit time and the contractors shall take all necessary precautions for the care of the cargo while in transit. The contractors shall assume full responsibility for the cargo (quantity, condition and integrity) while it is in their custody or that of their employees.

Qualifications
1. The organization(s) / Transporter(s) should be reputable and experienced in transportation of similar commodities outlined above
2. The organization(s) / Transporter(s) must have capacity (both financial, infrastructure and expertise) to transport the commodities to various locations including schools and health centres across Zimbabwe
Response Requirements
Transporters(s) that are interested in being considered to participate in the competitive process to offer proposals should submit the Expression of Interest (EOI) document using the standard questionnaire available from the UNICEF Harare office.
Submission of relevant company validation documents and information will be reviewed in the pre-qualification stage. Organization(s) must submit sufficient information on the history of the Organization to help with the review of the EOI.
If your Organization is interested and meets the requirements with suitable experience, please reply to this EOI by filling in the standard questionnaire and submitting three completed hard copies in a sealed envelope clearly marked "EOI/ZIM/2013/003" by Friday, 8 February 2013 no later than 1100 hours Harare local time. Envelopes with hard copies of EOIs and supporting documents must be accompanied by the electronic soft copies on CD. Soft copies of the standard questionnaire are available upon written request to the email addresses listed below.
