Man sires 26 kids out of wedlock

A Kambuzuma widow on Monday brought to court a man who claims to be among 26 children her late husband sired out of wedlock, six years after his death.
Miriam Mwashaireni applied for a protection order against Chengetai Madondo as well as her biological daughter Elizabeth whom she claims had bitten her arm.
Mwashaireni told the court that Madondo and Elizabeth were both disturbing her peace.
"Madondo came in 2006 claiming that he is a child of my late husband, six years after his death. I asked him to bring proof or any one of his relatives who can prove that indeed my late husband, who died in 2000, sired him.
"He then attempted to commit suicide at my house and later begged for somewhere to stay. I allowed him to temporarily stay at my plot in Marondera, but now I want him to vacate my farm and not to come to my house," she said.
In another application, Mwashaireni told the court that she wants her first daughter Elizabeth to be barred from her house for being disrespectful.
"She verbally abuses me and she once bit my arm. She is my child but she had the guts to brew traditional beer at my house without my consent because she claims to be a spirit medium," she said.
First to respond to Mwashaireni's application was Madondo who told the court that the applicant admitted that indeed he was a child of the late Mwashaireni's husband.
"When I approached her in 2006 after using the address that my late father used when he wrote to me in the rural areas, she admitted.
"I never attempted to commit suicide. She sent me to look after her farm where I stayed for two years.
"She later changed and started chasing me away and I instituted labour proceedings against her," he said.
He said in her affidavit at the labour court, she admitted that her husband sired 26 children out of the wedlock and he was included.
Madondo told the court that his stepmother had argued in the Labour Court that he could not sue for labour violation since he was looking after his father's property.
Elizabeth told the court that she bit her mother by mistake.
"I am sorry that I bit her but it was a mistake. I do not verbally assault her because we don't stay together." Magistrate Ms Miriam Banda dismissed the application against Madondo.
Ms Banda advised Mwashaireni that her application for protection order would not include Madondo because she had no relations with him.
"As for your daughter, make a proper application for eviction but the court is convinced that she is violent towards you. Your protection order application is granted," she said.
