An 11-year-old Chirumanzu girl recently fought a would-be rapist and escaped from his grip by biting his finger, forcing him to release her.
Gweru magistrate Pathekile Msipa yesterday slapped Givemore Mureva of village 64 Baru resettlement area in Chirumanzu, with a four-year jail term for attempted rape.
The court heard that on January 4, the complainant was on her way home from a grinding mill when she passed by Mureva's homestead. Mureva invited the girl into his hut claiming he wanted to give her money so that she could convey it to her brother.
As the girl entered the kitchen hut, Mureva dragged and tripped her onto his blankets which were already spread on the floor.
However, the girl wrestled him and bit his thumb until he let go of her and she fled from the scene.
The girl later reported the incident to her mother, who in turn took her to Mvuma Police Station where a report was made.
Yeukai Mugumba prosecuted.
