The Zanu-PF Women's League, Oppah Muchinguri, said Zanu-PF has lost a great leader and gallant son of the soil who worked tirelessly for the empowerment of all Zimbabweans, particularly women.
Muchinguri, said the late Vice President played a pivotal role in the political, social cultural and economic empowerment of all Zimbabweans.
She said Vice President Nkomo supported women in many debates especially in the Politburo where discussions on women empowerment were raised.
"We are very sad. We have lost a gallant son of the soil. Nkomo was principled and as the Women's League we will feel the loss that this death has come at a critical point in the history of our struggle," she said.
A Zanu PF Central Committee member, Nyasha Chikwinya, described the Vice President as a self-less man who met people from all walks of life.
The late Nkomo served as Vice President of Zimbabwe from 2009 to 2013 after serving for years as a minister in government. He was Speaker of Parliament from 2005 to 2008.
He was then appointed to the Senate in 2008 before becoming Vice President.
