A Motswana woman has dragged her Zimbabwean boyfriend to court seeking to recover nearly P70 000, being a loan she applied for on his behalf from a Botswana bank.
Ms Charity Moyo (21), of Plot Number 20407, Molapo in Francistown and is the plaintiff, has been visiting Bulawayo regularly for the past two months trying to recover the money.
Moyo ended up approaching the Bulawayo magistrates' courts Civil Court and filed summons, which were sent to Hindrance Ndlovu (27), of 905 Southampton Building at the corner of 9th Avenue and Main Street.
According to the summons, Ndlovu is supposed to respond within seven days failure to which a default judgment will be handed for a writ of execution.
Ms Moyo claimed in her summons that she was in a relationship with Ndlovu for some time and last year he asked her to get a loan for him.
The claimant said Ndlovu approached her because of her financial status.
"He realised my financial capabilities and asked me to get a loan of P58 000 from Barclays Bank of Botswana.
"He said he wanted to start a business and buy a vehicle and promised to offset the loan within a short space of time, as he had applied for a three-month vacation at his workplace," said Ms Moyo in the summons.
The lovers had allegedly agreed that Ndlovu would be paying P2 140 per month until the loan was cleared.
Ms Moyo said she got the loan and gave it to her boyfriend, who then bought a vehicle and "became selfish and aggressive."
She said Ndlovu was no longer consistent in repaying the loan and ultimately stopped paying in October last year prompting the bank to threaten legal action against her.
The plaintiff claims the actions of her boyfriend have inconvenienced her, as she is no longer working and is wasting a lot of money travelling to Bulawayo looking for him to recover her money.
"I got worried as he was no longer consistent in paying the loan and was not doing any business. Hindrance (Ndlovu) has inconvenienced me in many ways.
He has affected my health through assault and emotional abuse, my reputation at the bank and my financial stability through costs of driving to and from Bulawayo.
"I am losing money by being out of work, the airtime I use phoning him and all ancillary costs," she said.
"I kindly ask the court to assist me in recovering all the money plus the cost of suit and the total is $515 and P69 086.64.
