The Agritex Plant Protection Unit says it has managed to contain the spread of armyworm although there are some areas such as the Midlands and Matabeleland South where the outbreak is yet to be controlled.
The armyworm outbreak which has hit parts of the country affecting hundreds of hectares of maize and pastures is now under control in Mashonaland West, Mashonaland Central and Manicaland provinces.
However, the situation is not yet under control in Matabeleland South and Midlands provinces with pastures and crops being destroyed at an alarming rate.
The head of the Agritex Plant Protection Research Institute, Dr Godfrey Chikwenhere, said the department has enough chemicals to control the armyworm.
"We have dispatched our teams to all the affected areas, the chemicals we have are enough and we have managed to contain the situation."
Meanwhile, in the Midlands province, the army worm outbreak is still out of control, with fears mounting that the country's food security might be threatened if no urgent measures are not taken.
