A 26-year-old teacher at Regina Mundi High School in Gweru has been arraigned before a Gweru magistrate facing a charge of domestic violence after he assaulted his wife for questioning him why he had given their maid $1.
Killan Chinongwa, who resides within the school premises, pleaded guilty to domestic violence and was fined $25 or in default 10 days in prison.
For the State, Mr Justos Makwena told the court that on 9 January, at about 3pm, Chinongwa was at his place of residence when he was confronted by his wife, Ms Ester Dube, who wanted to know why he had given the maid $1 as pocket money.
Mr Makwena said an argument between Chinongwa and his wife ensued with the wife insisting that Chinongwa should have notified her first before giving the maid the $1.
The court heard that during the argument, Chinongwa became violent and started assaulting his wife with open hands and booted feet.
He went on to pick a stick, which he wanted to use to assault his wife, but Ms Dube bolted out of the house.
She then went and reported the matter to the police leading to Chinongwa's arrest.
Appearing in the same court was a 23-year-old polygamist facing a domestic violence charge after he assaulted his second wife, Ms Emily Moyo, for questioning him why he had taken her blankets to the senior wife's bedroom.
Samuel Sunamai, of Stone Crushers, Mvuma Road, pleaded guilty to the charge of domestic violence.
He was fined $100.
For the State, Mr Makwena, said on 8 February last year, Ms Moyo went to the City of Gweru to do some shopping.
The court heard that when she returned home, she found that her blanket was missing from her bedroom.
Mr Makwena said Ms Moyo conducted a search and found her blanket in the other wife's bedroom.
The court heard that when Ms Moyo approached Sunamai and asked him about the development, he became violent and assaulted her with open hands.
Ms Moyo then went and reported the matter to the police leading to Sunamai's arrest.
