A 30-year-old Gweru man employed as a kombi driver allegedly lost his wife of 12 years to his employer after he fell ill.
Mr Chikomani Sithole said he had been happily married to his wife for many years until he recently lost her to his employer, Mr Edmore Chimombe.
"Recently, I got seriously ill. My employer Mr Chimombe started paying me visits. I thought he was just being nice and even praised him for the love he was showing me. I was shocked to hear from my friends that he was having an affair with my wife. However, I ignored the allegations since I trusted my boss," he said.
Mr Sithole said suddenly his wife's behaviour changed. He said she started becoming moody and often insulted him for no reason.
"One day we had a misunderstanding with my wife over a minor issue. She overreacted and told me that she wanted a divorce. I pleaded with her not to leave, but she packed her bags and left my house. She left our two children behind. Now she is staying in Mkoba where she is renting a house," he said.
Mr Sithole said he did not know where his wife was getting the money to pay the rent. He said he suspected that his employer was giving her the money.
"Mr Chimombe was seen on a number of occasions at my wife's new lodgings. One day I paid my wife a surprise visit and found them together. I was hurt, but I decided to walk away," he said.
Mr Sithole said after about two days he gathered courage and confronted his employer and told him to leave his wife alone.
He said Mr Chimombe told him that he saw nothing wrong in visiting his wife since the two had divorced.
Mr Sithole said his wife is now pregnant and he suspects that Mr Chimombe is responsible.
Contacted for a comment, Mr Chimombe dismissed the whole issue as "a pack of lies".
He, however, admitted that he sometimes visited his employee's ex-wife.
"There are certain issues I cannot talk about with you or anyone for I consider them personal. However, what I can say is we are just friends with this woman. I cannot stop talking to her now because she divorced her husband. After all we share common professional interests. I am not even staying with her, so how can anyone prove that I took his wife?" he said.
Mr Chimombe denied impregnating his employee's wife. He said what Mr Sithole perceived as a pregnancy was only a result of the woman gaining weight.
