Air Zimbabwe property will not be attached, Pilots still on strike

Government has come to the rescue of Air Zimbabwe by paying the US$430 000 owed to the national airline's employees, thus reversing the attachment of vehicles that was being effected by the Deputy Sheriff.
The 409 workers, who were earmarked for retrenchment in 2009, had won a court battle to have their November and December 2009 salaries paid by the national airline. 
Air Zimbabwe management then appealed against the ruling, which they eventually lost, resulting in the Deputy Sherrif attaching property.
Transport, Communication and Infrastructural Development Minister, Cde Nicholas Goche said as a shareholder in the firm, the government has chipped in to help the ailing parastatal, which has been facing problems since 2003. "As Government, we have paid the US$430 that Air Zimbabwe owed its workers. We acted on the matter after being briefed of the situation by the Air Zimbabwe management," Cde Goche said.
Government's intervention came on the eleventh hour when the Deputy Sheriff was at the company's headquarters to attach the remaining vehicles. 
Air Zimbabwe Board Chairman, Mr Jonathan Kadzura confirmed the development but highlighted that the industrial action by pilots is still unresolved. 
Sources at the national airline say since pilots went on strike on the 23rd of March, Air Zimbabwe embarked on a costly deal by contracting Zambezi Airlines to ply its Harare-Johannesburg route.
