A SENIOR Zanu-PF official in Matabeleland North, Jonathan Nkanyezi, has vowed to continue backing President Robert Mugabe even if he became too old or incapacitated.

Addressing a weekend campaign rally organised by Mines and Mining Development minister Obert Mpofu at Cross Mabale in Hwange, Nkanyezi - the party's provincial commissar - said he will continue to rally members to support Mugabe even if he was confined to a wheelchair.

"They say he is an old man, but we have not said anything about the old people in their leadership," he said.

"We are the ones who nominated him for that position.

"He has never at any conference or congress imposed himself, but we are the ones who selected him.

"We will rally behind him because of his leadership. At the moment he is the only leader capable of heading the party.

"They may say he is old, but we will rally behind him, even when he is wheelchair-bound, we will bring him here to address us.

"We will support him no matter all the negative things they say about our president." Speaking at the same rally, Mpofu attacked the Zanu-PF leadership in Hwange for stealing farming inputs sourced under a scheme fronted by Mugabe.

"Hwange is embarrassing," he said,"The things we hear about them are a disgrace.

"When you are a leader and steal or sell seed given to the people by the President, then you are dangerous.

"I have come here with seven tonnes of maize seed to be given to you because I had heard that the one given to you by the President did not reach you because of unfair distribution, yet some of it was stolen.

"You will not win any election if you do not respect the people and the chiefs. You may go to any prophet, even TB Joshua, but if you do not respect the people and chiefs, you will not win."
