The 25-member Constitution Parliament Select Committee (COPAC) met in Harare this Tuesday and resolved to adopt the draft constitution on Thursday this week.
The draft constitution was tabled before the select committee by COPAC co-Chairpersons, Munyaradzi Paul Mangwana, Mr Douglas Mwonzora and Mr Edward Mukhosi.
Speaking after the meeting, Mr Mwonzora said all members requested time to go through the draft constitution and proposed to endorse it on Thursday.
Mr Mukhosi said the select committee had agreed to endorse the document on Wednesday but some members said they could not make it as they will be attending the burial of Professor John Makumbe who died on Sunday.
Cde Mangwana concurred with other chairpersons that the document will be endorsed on Thursday.
Once the select committee endorses the draft constitution, a motion will be moved in parliament on Tuesday next week for the committee to present both the national report and the final draft.
This will pave way for the principals in the GPA to discuss the way forward before the Head of State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, President Robert Mugabe proclaims a date for the holding of a referendum.
