Tsvangirai fine tunes policy before forming the next government

Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai yesterday took advantage of President Robert Mugabe's absence "to fine-tune policy before forming the next government" at a retreat in Nyanga, party spokesperson Douglas Mwonzora said yesterday.
Mugabe returned yesterda from Ethiopia where he has been attending the African Union summit and normally meets Tsvangirai every Monday to discuss the country's march towards elections.
"In the past three days the MDC National Executive Committee (Nec) has been engaged in a policy conference. We have been reviewing out economic, social, education, industrial and all other party policies to make sure they are responsive to our situation and the wishes of Zimbabweans.
"These are the policies we will take to our people in the forthcoming campaign and ultimately will be the fulcrum on which the next government will be anchored," Mwonzora said.
Mwonzora confirmed Tsvangirai and his deputy Thokozani Khupe attended the meeting."There is no doubt within the party that given the kind of work we have out into the constitution-making process, the next elections will be much better than the 2008 charade.
"With that we will win and form the next administration and we are serious about turning this country's fortunes once we get the mandate at the polls," Mwonzora said.
Late last year Tsvangirai launched his party's Jobs, Upliftment, Investment, Capital and Environment economic blueprint that he said will unleash the country's economic potential and create five million jobs in the first five years of his rule should he win the polls.
The MDC has blamed Mugabe and Zanu PF for Zimbabwe's meltdown pointing in particular at the land reform programme and the ongoing economic indigenisation policy.
