Zim man faces extradition to Botswana for murder case

A Zimbabwean man, who allegedly brutally murdered his Botswana neighbour before ransacking his house, appeared at the Harare magistrates' court yesterday charged with murder.
Munyaradzi Mapurisa (28) is said to have committed the offence in Francistown in 2007.
It is alleged that after committing the offence, he fled into Zimbabwe with the stolen goods worth over P2 000 and P210 cash.
Mapurisa was remanded in custody to February 12 by magistrate Mr Tendai Mahwe pending extradition.
Appearing for the State Mr Tungamirai Chakurira alleged that on March 22 2007 Mapurisa went to Vivian Moneed Moyo's house with the intention of robbing him.
Mapurisa, it is alleged, approached Moyo who was alone at the house around 1pm.
He grabbed the unsuspecting Moyo from behind and tied his legs and hands using a string before gagging him with a towel to stop him from screaming.
Mapurisa then allegedly strangled Moyo to death.
After the act, Mapurisa, the court heard, ransacked the house and stole clothes worth P2 225 and P210 cash and fled to Zimbabwe with the loot.
It is further alleged that Moyo's wife, who had visited a relative, returned home and found her husband dead. She reported the case to the police.
Luck ran out for Mapurisa when he was arrested on June 9 the same year at Plumtree border post on his way back to Botswana through an undesignated point.
Two days after his arrest, Mapurisa led the police to the discovery of the stolen goods at his rural home in Masvingo leading to his arrest.
During the same month, Mapurisa appeared before a Plumtree magistrate who remanded him in custody and was later released pending the extradition process.
On November 16 last year, the Zimbabwe Republic Police received the extradition request documents from Botswana leading to Mapurisa's re-arrest.
