A teenanger in Chipinge has been convicted of assault after she struck her ex-lover with an empty beer bottle.
Magistrate, Mr Vuso Gapare, last Thursday sentenced Nicola Mtetwa (19) to 105 hours of community service for assaulting her ex-lover at a night club.
It was the State case that on January 1, at around 1am at Dzonzayi Night Club, Nicola was drinking beer with other revellers when she bumped into her ex-lover, Lloyd John Mawarire.
An argument ensued after Mawarire asked her about a photo which was in Nicola's possession.
However, the teenager who was drunk grabbed a 750ml empty bottle and struck Mawarire on the head. He fell to the ground.
Nicola went outside the night club, but Mawarire followed her there. Nicola grabbed the complainant's hand and bit his wrist. Mawarire wailed for mercy and Nicola loosened her bite after the intervention of other guzzlers.
Mawarire reported the matter to the police leading to Nicola's arrest. Medical reports produced in court confirmed the assault.
However, Nicola pleaded not guilty and told the court that she bit Mawarire as self defence after he had strangled her.
"He saw me talking with another man and was enraged. He was the first to attack me. He strangled me and the only way to save myself was by biting the hell out of him," she said.
However, Nicola was found guilty and was ordered to perform 105 hours of community service at Simukai Children's Home.
