Defence Minister, Emmerson Mnangagwa says the country's military has a mandate to defend national economic interests and will not tolerate any move by the MDC-T to enforce security sector reforms in the country.

Responding to questions from a group of senior students at the National Defence College on Zimbabwe's defence policy, Mnangagwa said it is the obligation of the defence forces to jealously guard national economic interests.

Mnangagwa had no kind words for those who have been calling for security sector reforms, saying there will be no room for such a compromise.

Drawing examples of the USA, England, Pakistan and China's defence policies, which give the forces economic domination, Mnangagwa said the country's defence policy gives the military a right to safeguard the country's resources in keeping with the values of the liberation struggle.

He also told the senior officers that Zimbabwe and most African countries do not subscribe to the US- African Command as it is aimed at safeguarding American interests in Africa.

The National Defence Course being held at the National Defence College focuses on the development and refinement of the national defence policy and factors that influence it such as the land reform programme and the on-going indeginisation and empowerment policy.
