BUSINESSMAN Temba Mliswa who was arrested on allegations of extorting US$1 600 from relatives of his two workers and theft of 56 cattle in Karoi has been released from police custody.
Police spokesperson Superintendent Andrew Phiri yesterday said Mliswa would appear in court on May 4.
"He has been released today (yesterday) on summons and will appear in court on May 4," he said.
Mliswa was arrested on Monday on allegations of extorting the money from a white couple he had employed at his farm in Karoi.
It is alleged that sometime this year, Mliswa made a report to police in Karoi that the couple had stolen at his farm but then later withdrew the case.
In March, he went to Borrowdale Police Station and reported the same matter, leading to the couple's arrest, it is alleged.
He is alleged to have then extorted US$1 600 from the couple's family to facilitate their release. They were released on payment of the cash. Mliswa was also implicated in the theft of 56 cattle from Rydings Primary School in Karoi.
By yesterday no further details could be obtained on the case as investigations were still continuing.
