Teacher arrested for stocktheft

A TEACHER at Nesigwe Secondary School in Nkayi on Tuesday appeared in court accused of stealing seven beasts worth $2 800 from a Gokwe farmer.

Obed Ncube (41) of Menda village, who teaches English and History at the school, was jointly charged with Glavin Ndlovu (44) of Mhlatheni village over stocktheft charges.

They were not asked to plead when they appeared before Gokwe provincial magistrate, Shepherd Munjanja. Both of them were remanded in custody to February 19 for trial.

If convicted, the two could spend a total of 63 years behind bars as theft of a single beast carries a mandatory sentence of nine years.
