Mike Campbell has died, he died in his temporary home in Harare yesterday, a place that became his home after he was evicted from Mount Carmel farm during the land invasions.
Mr Campbell made legal history by challenging the Zimbabwean government's land reform programme before the SADC Tribunal.
On 28 November 2008, the SADC court delivered its ruling, with the five panel judges finding the land reform programme to be racist and in violation of international treaties and human rights.
A few months before the Tribunal was due to rule on the case, Mr Campbell, his wife Angela, and their son-in-law Ben Freeth, were assaulted by thugs loyal to the then ruling Zanu PF party.
The attack took place on the same day Robert Mugabe was being sworn in as President despite the almost universal belief that the elections in 2008 were thought to have been heavily rigged in his favour.
It is believed that Mr Campbell never fully recovered from the injuries he sustained on this day.
Mike Campbell's historic struggle against the might of the Zimbabwean government became the subject of the award winning film documentary titled 'Mugabe and the White African'.
