A man sneaked into a house, bludgeoned the owner with a hoe on the head before dragging the unconscious man's wife outside, where he raped her, a Harare magistrate has heard.
Tanyanyiwa Nyamuropa, 36, allegedly raped the woman twice before running away to an unknown place.
Nyamuropa last week appeared before magistrate Tendai Mahwe on rape charges.
The court was told that Nyamuropa went to the woman's house at The Grange new stands in Harare and entered into her room where she was sleeping with her husband in December last year.
Nyamuropa allegedly struck the woman's husband with a hoe on the head before dragging the woman outside the house.
Prosecutor Arnorld Sakuinje told the court that Nyamuropa forcibly removed the woman's clothes and raped her twice before fleeing.
The woman allegedly told her injured husband about the rape and they both filed a police report leading to Nyamuropa's arrest.
Magistrate Mahwe remanded Nyamuropa in custody to February 22.
