The trial date of Pritchard Zimondi, who allegedly fatally stabbed his girlfriend in Chitungwiza, was yesterday further postponed to February 20.

The matter had been provisionally postponed to today at the behest of Zimondi who was not feeling well when the trial was supposed to start on February 5.

He showed High Court judge Justice Felistus Chatukuta medical cards confirming he was not feeling well and unfit to stand trial. Justice Chatukuta had no choice but to defer the trial. In terms of the law a suspect cannot be tried if he or she is unfit to stand trial.

Yesterday the State sought a further postponement of the case, which Justice Chatukututa, sitting in her chambers, granted.

Allegations against Zimondi arose sometime in April last year when he allegedly had a misunderstanding with his girlfriend Monalisa Chinomona (19). It is alleged that on the fateful day, he went over to Chinomona's place where she was alone in her bedroom. Zimondi reportedly entered the house unnoticed, headed for the kitchen and armed himself with a kitchen knife.

He allegedly went to where Chinomona was sleeping and stabbed her with the knife 15 times on her left breast. After the grisly act, Zimondi reportedly left the knife stuck on the woman's breast and ran away.

He was later caught in Harare while trying to flee to Gweru.  It is alleged that Zimondi had Chi√Ǭ≠nomona's pants and bra on him. Mr Norman Mugiya is representing Zimondi while Mr Editor Mavuto is appearing for the State.
