The First Lady, Grace Mugabe, has implored Zimbabweans from various social, economic persuasions to play their part in conserving and preserving the environment.
Addressing guests at the Valentine Day celebrations held in Harare, the First Lady said the earth is losing its beauty each day due to human activities.
Mugabe reminded Zimbabweans that the welfare of the nation depends on the goods and services provided by the environment such as food, shelter, medicines and timber hence the need to take care of them.
She outlined the various environmental programmes that are spearheaded by her husband Robert Mugabe, saying the President is leading by example in setting aside the National Tree Planting Day and by endorsing the 'clean cities' programme.
The First Lady challenged companies to reclaim mining areas and said farmers should practice conservation agriculture to improve soils and crop yields.
The environment minister, Francis Nhema took the opportunity to donate palms to the First Lady.
