Zimbabwe's ambassador to the DRC, Mr John Mayowe has died at the age of 60.

Ambassador Mayowe died this Saturday at a Johannesburg hospital, in South Africa.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Ambassador Mayowe was a veteran of the liberation struggle, who rose through the ranks becoming Zanu PF representative to the Scandinavian countries.

At independence, he became one of Zimbabwe's first crop of diplomats and served as ambassador to Romania, Senegal, Mozambique and Sweden, before his current appointment to the DRC.

Ambassador Mayowe is survived by his wife and five children.
