The European Union Council of Ministers meeting in the Belgian capital, Brussels has this Monday delisted six government ministers and 21 individuals from its list of those who are on travel bans imposed in 2002.

The six are Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister, Walter Mzembi; Environment and Natural Resources Management Minister, Francis Nhema; Lands and Rural Resettlement Minister, Herbert Murerwa; the Minister of State in Vice President Joice Mujuru's Office, Sylvester Nguni; Small to Medium Enterprises Development Minister, Sithembiso Nyoni and Media, Information and Publicity Minister, Webster Shamu.

Justice and Legal Affairs Minister, Patrick Chinamasa and Foreign Affairs Minister, Simbarashe Mumbengegwi are still exempted from the travel ban list as members of the re-engagement team.

Among other delisted individuals are David Chapfika, Shadreck Chipanga, Patrick Zhuwawo, Michael Myambuya, Cephas Msipa and Dr David Parirenyatwa.

A company linked to Chapfika, Divine Homes, has also been delisted.

Speaking at a news conference this Monday evening, EU Representative in Zimbabwe, Aldo Dell'Ariccia said the EU welcomes the positive developments in Zimbabwe and is willing to do more and strengthen cooperation

However Dell'Ariccia failed to justify why the Zimbabwe Mining Development Corporation (ZMDC) has been retained on the sanctions list despite pressure from some countries to delist it.

The EU sanctions list is reviewed every year since their illegal imposition in 2002.

The Zimbabwea government insists that the partial lifts are a dumb squib, insisting they should be wholly and unconditionally lifted.
