The principals to the Global Political Agreement (GPA) have agreed on a new candidate to replace the former Zimbabwe Electoral Commission Chairperson, Simpson Mutambanengwe who resigned recently.
Briefing journalists on the outcome of the Monday routine meeting of principals held at State House, Harare, Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai said the principals have agreed to replace Mutambanengwe with a serving judge whose name will be announced in due course.
He said a number of pertinent issues including how government will raise the US$100 million needed for the referendum were also discussed during the meeting.
On funds for the referendum, the principals agreed that Deputy Prime Minister Arthur Mutambara will lead a ministerial team that will source the US$100 million needed for the referendum from local organisations.
The principals have also appointed Mr Jacob Mudenda as the new Human Rights Commission chairperson.
Mr Mudenda takes over from Reg Austin who resigned recently.
Also discussed during the meeting were issues about the need for the local media to be patriotic and the need for an internal election monitoring team.
